Artist Courtney J. Garrett was born and raised in the heart of rural Alabama. Realizing she had a passion for interior environments, shapes and structures she obtained a bachelors degree of Interior Design from Auburn University.
Clearly, it was during this academic time that she became inspired by what Courtney Garrett refers to as, “the pattern of being a painter”. Her research and interior concepts became consumed by the artists’ ability to translate the intangible and the emotional onto seemingly flat two-dimensional surfaces. In short, her research passionately led her to a career as a professional artist.
Currently, her creative progression is heavily influenced by studies of natural conditions affected by the indefinite passing of time. A remnant from a crumbled building, the color of rusted metal, or the humbleness of a broken chair all evokes the idea of things that once were. Moreover, it is in these things and the memory thereof that she finds the emergence of emotionally driven colors and shapes. Through storms, rural landscapes, and architectural sketches, Courtney’s unique approach continues to foster the ghostly yet inspiring images of her oil paintings and mixed media works.
Courtney resides in Atlanta, GA, where she lives and works as a professional artist. With national attention requiring major contracts for exclusive showings of her works, Courtney J. Garrett is becoming a popular name amongst Atlanta’s creative- up and coming.
